Day 2:
Yesterday was VERY tiring which is why I'm just now blogging. The adventure began when we asked our landlord how far Casco Antigua [the oldest part of the city] was he replied, "About one and a half miles." We decided that was not too far and we could just walk, rather than get taxis. We begin our journey with high spirits around 10:30, happy and taking pictures of everything. One hour later, the sun is higher in the sky and we're a little tired of walking, but we carry on. A bit later, we are stopped by Panamanian officials and told that if we keep going we'll be robbed, but we continue on. FINALLY, around 12:30 we arrive in Casco Antigua, dripping with sweat and tuckered out. Later that evening we talk to our landlord about it only to find out that he really thought it was 2 miles to Casco Antigua, but that that was only a guess and he doesn't really comprehend miles well....
Later, when we told people that we walked from Punto Paitilla to Casco Antigua, people were stunned! Dr. Mas' sister told us not to tell Dr. Mas that we had done that, and every one else looked like this --> :O
What a day!
Day 3:
Today was our first day being in the elementary schools and going to class. While we're here I will be observing and helping in a 4th grade classroom, and the kids are so cute! When it was time for us to leave they all said, "Bye bye nooooo!!!" Too cute.
I am in a classroom with Leanna and our cooperating teacher asked us to do something tomorrow, and we have no clue what he said....so hopefully that will work out. We think he asked us to do something with their spelling words....we'll see!
After the elementary school we ate lunch with some Panamanian students. They were very nice and really helpful! They also go to the schools with us so they're a big help. We ate in the school's cafeteria and it was super cheap and pretty tasty, too. After that we did the LAMEST thing ever...our professors took us into EVERY single office the school has and introduced us to EVERY employee...it was the so boring. I'm ready for tomorrow when we get to see what a normal day will be like.
